Choosing an Afghan Hound as your pet dog or puppy:--

General Description

Afghans are elegant, independent, keen, sensitive, loyal, loving companions, calm and patient they are tolerant of children and most other pets.
Suitable Owners

Must have time and energy for the high maintenance of the ling silky coat and be prepared for lots of exercise

Originally bred for chasing large game like deer. Usually running ahead of hunters

 Long fine coat

 Lots of grooming required to keep the long coat free of knots and tangles
Average Height:

 63-74 cms. 25-29 ins.
Average Weight:

 23-27 kg. 50-60 lb.

 Any Colour is acceptable

 An independent nature may make them appear aloof but they are both loyal and affectionate. They can often appear unintelligent and this combined with their independent nature can make them difficult to train.

 They require regular exercise, with energetic runs but they can be quiet and often lazy at home
Average Lifespan: 

12-14 yrs.
Possible Disadvantages

Long coat requires regular grooming, can be prone to chase smaller animal often ruuning off in pursuit.

Hip dysplasia and can be prone to cataracts.
