There are twwo types of collie Rough collie (above picture) and the Smooth Collie (picture below).
Gentle ands affectionate dogs (rough collies famous from the "lassie" films)


Suitable Owners

Caring owner who will repay their affection and loyalty with care and protection (collies can be shy)

Origins

A long history dating back to the Roman invasion of Britain. Developed mostly in Scotland and the Border regions.

Daily brushing needed to avoid tangling.

Temperament:

Gentle and affectionate dogs but can be sensitive and aloof.
 Exercise:

Tolerate children. Good with other pets, may be reserved with strangers an unusual animals.

Average Lifespan: 

12-13 yrs.
Possible Disadvantages

Coat needs attention, daily grooming needed to avoid matting and may need trimming to keep dogs cooler in hot weather.
