General Description

Terrier like in appereance, highly intelligent but with a mischevious streak.

Suitable Owners

Active and confident owner wo likes exercising, training and grooming his dog.

Origins

Originally bred in Germany as herding dogs also capable of hunting small prey.

Hard and wiry with a dense undercoat.
Grooming:

Clipping every 3 - 4 months to maintain shape and regular brushing.
Average Height:

46 - 48 cms. 18 - 19 ins.

Pure black or salt and pepper.
Temperament:

The Standard Schnauzer is a great companon, and shows great devotion, loyalty and love of families. Incredibly active with a boisterous spirit, but calm and easily biddable and possessing inate intelligence. They are athletic, agile, and love lots of exercise

 Exercise:

Medium exercise requirements, but is always busy both at home and on walks.

Average Lifespan: 

12 - 14 yrs.
Possible Disadvantages

Can be prone to excessive barking. Wiry coat may need regular brushing to keep it tangle free.
